General information for your visit

  • If you wear glasses or headphones regularly, it is a great idea to bring them to your appointment! This helps us navigate what piercings would work well, or not well, for you and your lifestyle.

For our farsighted clients, bring your glasses or readers! Our jewelry can be quite small and detailed.

If you play sports, we do not recommend removing or taping over new piercings.

There are also particular piercings that we should not use in-ear devices (such as earbuds and stethoscopes) during the initial healing period.

  • We have a parking lot behind our building! Head to the left of the building, up the driveway, and the lot is to the right. If our parking lot is full, please use any available street parking.

Please do not park behind Ritz & Co. or Allstate, you run the risk of being towed.

  • Dorje Adornments accepts cash, card, and contactless payments.

  • We do not offer bilateral cartilage piercings (one on each ear). We stick to one ear at a time for optimal healing. If you have any cartilage piercings currently healing, we will want to work on that same ear only.

We do not want to be healing more than 3-4 piercings at a time. Your body only has so many healing resources!

  • With the exception of a few piercings, we insist on piercing exclusively with studs, giving you the option of changing to a hoop after the piercing has had time to fully heal.

Curious about heal times? Check out our Pricing & Service menu for a breakdown of healing times by piercing.

  • Please avoid immersing your piercing in shared bodies of water (lakes, pools, hot tubs, etc.) for the majority of your healing period.

This is to prevent moisture related issues, prevent the introduction of harmful bacteria to your healing piercing, and to avoid irritation from chemicals like chlorine.

This is why winter is the ideal time to get pierced!

  • For optimal healing on any piercing, we suggest avoiding air travel for the first 4-6 weeks of your initial piercing. Altitude pressure from flying can cause excess swelling and irritation, and no one wants to take a piercing on vacation!

  • If you were pierced with a stud, downsizing is incredibly important!

Our studs comes in two pieces - The decorative front piece and the back titanium post it secures into. We always pierce with a longer post to accommodate initial swelling! After the swelling has subsided, we suggest the posts be replaced with a shorter set to help ease and speed up the healing process. Since the decorative front piece doesn’t change, you just need to purchase shorter posts. Each new post is $15 plus a $10 insertion charge.

We send an email notification to you when it’s time to downsize your piercing! For a breakdown of downsizing timelines, please visit our Pricing & Service Menu.

  • You are more than welcome to bring one guest over the age of 18 to your appointment!

If you have an appointment for two people or a minor, no other guests will be allowed.

ID Requirements

    • Any client over the age of 18 must bring a valid government issued photo ID such as a driver’s license or passport.

    • In lieu of a government issued ID, we will accept a school ID along with a matching birth certificate.

    • Anyone under the age of 18 must bring a copy of their birth certificate as well as have a legal guardian/parent present.

    • The legal guardian/parent’s ID must match the name and birthdate on the minor's birth certificate.

    • If the minor has any form of ID, it is not required, but appreciated, along with their birth certificate.

    • We do not allow anyone under the age of 18 in the studio unless they are receiving a service.

Sterilization

Our first priority at Dorje Adornment is safety for you and your piercer!

  • Here are some of the sterilization practices we abide by:

    • All jewelry is autoclave sterilized prior to insertion in a new piercing.

    • All tools are cleaned by using a multiple step decontamination process ending in autoclave sterilization.

    • Needles are one time use only and disposed of in a wall mounted medical sharps container.

    • We are the only piercing studio in Rochester that spore tests all three of our autoclaves weekly through an independent laboratory to ensure proper sterilization is being achieved.

    • Our piercers are all members of the Association of Professional Piercers and have undergone training in OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens, Infection Control and Red Cross First Aid/CPR.

Visiting Dorje

  • Short answer, yes and no. We only work with jewelry from our studio or from one of the jewelry companies we work with. This ensures we can guarantee and stand by the quality of jewelry we are using!

If you have a particular piece of jewelry you’d like to wear in your piercing once its healed please bring it along in a sealed container so the piercer can account for it when deciding on where to place your piercing.

If you would like to use jewelry from us for a new piercing, please drop it off during studio hours at least 1 week prior to your appointment so we can properly sterilize the jewelry!

  • All of our jewelry is equally safe for those with sensitive skin!

We only work with implant grade materials that are safe for initial piercings as well as long term wear!

We carry implant-grade titanium (ASTM F-136) as well as 14k/18k rose, white, and yellow gold. Our gold is alloyed without nickel or cadmium, the common allergens in gold jewelry.

  • Yes! We offer jewelry browsing appointments which allow you to work with a jewelry specialist to browse our collection and collect pricing.

These appointments can usually be done the same week. We do not offer walk-in browsing as we may not have a jewelry specialist available to help you. Our jewelry is custom-fit and piercing specific, so we recommend browsing with our expert guidance!

Ages 15+ we offer cartilage, nostril, navel, and septum piercings.

  • No, we do not offer bilateral cartilage piercings (one on each ear). We stick to one ear at a time for optimal healing!

  • If you have travel plans where you are flying and/or swimming, we ALWAYS suggest waiting until you get back!

We recommend keeping your piercing out of shared bodies of water for the full heal time.

We also strongly recommend against flying with a fresh piercing for the first 4-6 weeks as it can cause excess swelling.

Also, no one wants to take care of a fresh piercing on vacation!

  • We do not offer piercings or jewelry insertion on anyone who is pregnant. We also do not offer piercings on anyone who has been breastfeeding for 6 months or less.

We are happy to offer other services such as jewelry insertions or consultations!
